Terms and Conditions: Cancelation: Payment Options

Please read the following document, Swiss Mountain Guides General Terms and Conditions when reserving a guide.

That document basically states that when a guide blocks a day for you, he sets that day aside for you and doesn’t reserve anyone else for that day. If you cancel at the last minute, he still must be paid since he can’t find work to replace that lost income. A guide’s seasonal work days are limited, so each day booked is very important to him. On the bottom of page 5, Art.12: cancelation, states that:

  • Cancellation 10 days or less prior to the start of the tour: 100% of fees.
  • Cancellation 30 to 11 days prior to the start of the tour: 50% of fees
  • Cancellation 60 to 31 days prior to the start of the tour: 25% of fees

To reserve a guide, I will ask for a deposit of 50% of the guide fees. Payment can be made through bank transfer, credit card, or via Transferwise. The remaining fees can be paid in cash the day your trip begins. Please initiate this payment with your guide when you meet him for the first time.

The least expensive option is using Transferwise, a UK based company. They have a minimal fee, and give much better exchange rates than any bank. Click on that link to make your payment. (You’ll need to spend 4-5 minutes linking to your bank during your first visit, but it’s well worth it if you make different currency payments.)

I encourage you to take an annual helicopter rescue insurance with Air Glaciers. If you are injured in the mountains, they cover the expense to fly you to the nearest hospital if you are not already covered by another insurer. The cost is CH35.00 for an individual and CH80.00 for a family.

If you’d like to cover any cancelation eventuality, Elvia cancelation insurance charges approximately 5% of your trip costs.
