Blue Bird Days Over Superbly Light PowderThe past 7 days have been as good as it gets in
these Alps.
Preferring not to take my camera these past few
days, I've got no visual proof to my words. But believe you me... it has been
fine. It has snowed close to another meter over the past week, more further
north. The avalanche danger has settled down, and is getting close to level
2.
There were many clouds about until Thursday. It was very cold in the humid conditions. The snow is extremely light. Thursday saw the first of 2 "Blue Bird" days. We flew to the Trient Glacier for a couple of fine runs, then to the Petit Combin yesterday for some of the finest skiing ever. There is something about skiing through deep. light powder, into isolated valleys with no other track in sight. The alpine rock is plastered in snow. (It rained high, then snowed as the temperature dropped, coating everything in a beautiful layer of powder.) As we get lower, the trees are drooping under the weight of the fresh stuff.
