Passsage Through a Sea of Ice

On January 7, 2004, we went high into the hills to find nice snow and adventure.

The ice was only 3 centimeters away at times, making for some challenging skiing and route finding. But the day was extraordinary! What a fine passage we had (big or small photos), skiing, skinning, and rappelling in the hills surrounding Verbier.

The skiing has slowly improved. Simply through time and gravity, what little snow we had, pressed into a solid base. One can really let go in certain areas and fly through fine powder, 20 centimeters deep, on top of a hard base. Yesterday, we skied the Attelas Couloirs while it snowed. It was fine powder skiing at last!
