A few more turns

It seems hardly possible to have perhaps the best
run of the winter in summer, right?
run of the winter in summer, right?
Well we sure got a pleasant surprise today.
Conditions were outstanding in the high Alps for a bit of heliski/ski
mountaineering. It snowed last week, and 15cm stuck here in Verbier for 6
days.

We waited for the weather to stabilize, and
the snow to settle. We flew from the flowers in the valley floor, to close to
4000 meters. The North East wind made the -10C seem even cooler. Powder caressed
our skis through the first few hundred meters of our decent down the crevassed
glaciers near Place de la Concordia. A short skin brought us to the corn snow on
the other side, and the next few hundred meters of skiing. We took our wonderful
machine back up, and this time found a beautiful ramp pitched over 45 degrees,
facing into the morning’s SE sun. The corn snow was hero snow, making this wild
line just tame enough for survival. Check out these href="http://www.alpineguide.ch/trips/060607Heli/index.html">17
