A mountain guide’s perspective on current ski and climbing conditions in and around Verbier, Switzerland.

Valais Central Super Classic

We just got back from a superb week in these hot
Alps, ski touring between the Valaisanne and Bernese Alps.

The weather has been HOT this past week in these
Alps. What a wild winter it has been. It was so mild over Christmas, then so
cold in February, and now, suddenly so
warm!

But this past week gave us superb
spring conditions, allowing us to descend long valleys to villages on both side
of the “rostigraben”. Riding lifts out of the Loetschental and skiing into
Leukerbad, over the Gemmi and down to Montana-Crans, then over to Lenk and
Adelboden before hopping a train back to the Valais, sent us carvin on cool corn
at warp speed! Have a look at the href="http://www.swissguides.com/trips/050327ValaisCentralClassic/index.html">photos!

I was a bit shocked
to see how much snow had melted when I returned to Verbier. People look at the
southerly slopes above town and declare skiing finished. Excellent! Leave the
smooth corn to us! Bye, bye.

The
forecast is calling for more mild weather. We will remain under this low for
another 2 days, then we should see clear nights
again.

I am gearing up for Greenland
again this year. I still have 2 spots left for the weeks April 26-May 3, and May
3-May 10. If you have not seen the photos, have a look href="http://www.swissguides.com/trips/040528GreenlandB/index.html">here.
