The Grand Combin

Climbing the South East Ridge

With Nando, we href="http://www.swissguides.com/trips/040918GrandCombin/index.html">climbed
from the Italian, Amiante Hut. While not “the finest route in all the Alps” as
promised by Nando, it was a great trip! Nando is fantastic person to be with. He
is an architect (as well as a guide!), and left his own company to be closer to
the hills. Living in the Valpeline valley, just on the other side of the Grand
Combin, means Nando and I have more in common than I do with most other areas of
Switzerland- same cows, same cheese, same mountains and valleys, and same
language: patois.

The weather has
changed from the cool, clear autumn days we enjoyed on the Grand Combin, to
blustery, snow flecked skies. The forecast calls for fairly clear weather, with
temperatures on the rise. It is 3 degrees href="http://www.swissguides.com/trips/040925Update/index.html">here
this morning.
